Compatibility
Works on every device you already own
No app, no account, and no matching brand required on either end — just a modern browser.
Start a TransferDevices
If it can open a modern browser, it can send and receive with FileTransferX. There's nothing to install and nothing device-specific to configure first.
Windows PC
Any modern browser — Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. No download required.
Mac
Safari, Chrome, or Firefox on macOS. Works exactly like Windows does.
Linux
Any recent Chromium- or Firefox-based browser. No package to install.
Android
Chrome or any modern mobile browser. No Google account needed.
iPhone / iPad
Safari or Chrome on iOS or iPadOS. No App Store install.
Install FileTransferX as an app
FileTransferX is a Progressive Web App, or PWA — a website that can be installed and opened like a regular app, without going through an app store. Once installed, it gets its own icon on your home screen, Start menu, Dock, or app drawer, and opens in its own window with no address bar or browser tabs around it. It's the same site, just one tap or click away instead of something you have to type in or search for each time.
Installing doesn't create an account, use up storage the way a large app would, or change how transfers work — it's just a faster, more app-like way to open FileTransferX. It's optional; the site works exactly the same whether you install it or keep using it in a regular browser tab.
iPhone / iPad
Safari- Open filetransferx.com in Safari.
- Tap the Share icon in the toolbar (the square with an arrow pointing up).
- Scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen".
- Tap "Add" — the FileTransferX icon now sits on your Home Screen like any other app.
Has to be Safari — Chrome and other browsers on iOS can't add apps to the Home Screen.
Android
Chrome- Open filetransferx.com in Chrome.
- Tap the menu (three dots) in the top right.
- Tap "Install app" (some versions show "Add to Home screen").
- Confirm — FileTransferX is added to your home screen and app drawer, and opens in its own window from then on.
Windows PC
Chrome or Edge- Open filetransferx.com in Chrome or Edge.
- Click the install icon in the address bar (a small screen with a down arrow), or open the browser menu and look for "Install FileTransferX" / "Apps".
- Click "Install" — FileTransferX gets a shortcut on your Start menu and taskbar, and opens in its own window without browser tabs or an address bar.
Mac
Safari, Chrome, or Edge- Open filetransferx.com.
- In Safari: open the File menu and choose "Add to Dock". In Chrome or Edge: click the install icon in the address bar.
- Confirm the name — FileTransferX now launches from your Dock or Applications like a regular app.
Transfer combinations
Any device above can send to any other, including itself. These are the pairings people ask about most.
Windows → Android
Open filetransferx.com on your Windows PC and choose Send Files, then open it on your Android phone and choose Receive Files. Scanning the QR code pairs them instantly — no cable and no separate transfer app.

Open the site on your Android phone, choose Send Files, and enter the short code shown on your Windows PC's Receive Files screen. It works like plugging in a cable, minus the cable.

iPhones don't have a built-in way to send files to a Windows PC. Open filetransferx.com in Safari, choose Send Files, and pair with your PC using the code or QR shown on either screen.

Open filetransferx.com on your PC, choose Send Files, and scan the QR code with your iPhone camera. No iTunes, no cable, and nothing passes through iCloud.

AirDrop is Apple-only, so it can't help here. Open filetransferx.com on both phones and pair with a camera scan or a typed code — the operating system on either end doesn't matter.

Works the same way in reverse. FileTransferX doesn't rely on either phone's built-in sharing feature, so an iPhone and an Android phone pair with each other exactly like two of the same brand would.

AirDrop can't reach an Android phone, but FileTransferX can. Open the site in Safari or Chrome on your Mac and pair with your phone using a scan or a typed code.

AirDrop still works fine between two Apple devices signed into compatible accounts. When it isn't cooperating, or the two aren't on the same Apple ID, FileTransferX is a reliable fallback that only needs a browser on each end.

Windows, macOS, or Linux, in any combination. Open the site on both computers and pair with the short transfer code — no shared network drive or USB stick required.

Android, iPhone, or a mix of both. Whichever two phones are involved, the process is identical: open the site, choose Send or Receive, and pair with a scan or a code.

These are the common pairings, not an exhaustive list. If both devices can open a browser and reach the internet, they can pair with each other — including tablets, Chromebooks, and anything else not named above.
